Welcome to The Aether. Stepping into our fantasy world is simple, and we're here to guide you through every mystical choice.

CHARACTER CREATION

Choose your Ancestry, Species, Class, and Specialty Class, then spend Character Points to build a character that fits both the rules and the story you want to play.

SPECIES & KINDRED

Decide who you are in Nethra, from Humans and Elves to Animari, Orc‑Kind, Undead, Wild‑Kin, and more. Each Species has its own look, flavor, and in‑game abilities.

CLASSES

Pick a Class to define your role in play, whether you’re a frontline Guardian or Warrior, a spellcaster like a Mage, Druid, Cleric, or Runecrafter, or even a sneaky Rogue.

SPECIALTY CLASSES

Add a Specialty Class or two such as Assassin, Bard, Alchemist, or Necromancer to sharpen your theme and give your character unique tricks on top of their main Class.

MAGIC

Magic uses spell slots, centering, and clear verbal calls, with spell lists like Divine, Elemental, Essence, Mystic, Undeath, Blood, Deep Nature, and Wild to match your concept.

CRAFTING

Use crafting systems like Alchemy, Apothecary, Cooking, Runecrafting, and Talismans to create brews, meals, runes, and items that show up as real props in game.

COMBAT

Combat is light‑touch boffer fighting plus spell packets and calls, with clear rules for where you can hit, how damage and armor work, and what happens when you hit 0 HP. Check out our rulebook for more info.

Game Basics & Expectations

What to Bring

Pack suitable footwear for uneven terrain and layers and costuming for the shifting temperatures, as well as an LARP weaponry you may have including spell packets if you're a magic caster (You can find out how to make spell packets here!. Bring water, snacks, and any personal medication. Most importantly, bring an open mind and your character's courage.

Check-in & Registration

Upon arrival, visit monster camp to confirm your attendance, grab your character sheet as well as any additional items or gold you are owed, and to pay the fee for the weekend event if you haven't already. New players will receive a focused orientation briefing to help ease the transition into the Aether's mystical reality.

The LARP Experience

LARP is collaborative storytelling. You stay 'in-character' while interacting with others, solving mysteries, or engaging in safe boffer combat. It's about enjoying the roleplay, even if it doesn't go where you'd like it to go and creating memorable moments together.

Roleplay is fluid and ever changing, so don't be upset if something doesn't go the way you expect it to, that's part of the fun!

Playing The Aether

Start by checking out our rulebook on the rules page and our discord here, as well as our events page for all our upcoming scheduled events. If you're unsure about anything, please don't hesitate to reach out to us for help! We strive to make sure the joining and welcoming process is as easy as can be and will make sure to help anybody who needs it.

We aim for a safe and inclusive environment. Don't worry about getting every rule right. Embrace the role and the community will guide you.

Costuming the Aether

Essential Safety

Your comfort is paramount. Prioritize sturdy, broken-in footwear suitable for uneven terrain. Always pack plenty of water, high-energy snacks, and weather-appropriate layers to handle the shift from sun-scorched days to chilling nights.

Costume your species

We have over 30 Kindred to choose from, all with different costuming requirements, some like humans require no special costuming aside from medieval period gear, while others like Frost Elves require much more elaborate costuming (Explained in detail in the rulebook availavle on the rules page)

Growth & Upgrades

Don't feel pressured to have a perfect kit on day one. Start with a simple base of neutral tunics or wraps and upgrade over time. We encourage evolving your look as your character grows through their journey in the Aether.

Wisdom from the Aether

Entering the Aether is a journey into the unknown. Use these insights to navigate our world with grace, ensuring every ripple you cast strengthens the shared story.

Staying In Character

Bring your character to life by thinking about how they speak, move, react, and make choices. Maybe they are brave, nervous, charming, bitter, loyal, secretive, or reckless. During game hours, we stay in character as much as possible, responding to the world through our characters instead of ourselves, so the story feels real for everyone around us.

That said, everyone needs a breather sometimes. If you need to step away, rest, ask a question, or take a moment out of game, you can head to a designated Out-of-Character area and return when you’re ready.

Safety & Consent

Your physical and emotional safety is paramount. Use our calibrated safety keywords to pause or end any interaction immediately if their is a safety concern or you feel uncomforatable. We build this world on mutual respect and active consent. Check out our rule and safety page to see more on this.

Community

A strong LARP is built by the people who play it. Take the time to welcome new players, include others in roleplay, and help people feel like they belong. Sometimes one small conversation, one invitation into a scene, or one moment of kindness can change someone’s entire experience. Communicate clearly with staff when you have questions, concerns, or ideas, and look out for the people around you. The more we care for the community, the more alive the world becomes.
